1. What brought you to Mountain Strength CrossFit/how long have you been a member?

I have always been active and had recently begun again a martial art that I had taught and practiced for over 20 years called Aikido after a couple of years of absence. I really needed something more that was focused on conditioning and would challenge me to learn again. I had seen the Crossfit sign, and my wife had enrolled my son in the teen class then ‘encouraged’ (more like bullied) me to attend an adult class and that was 2 years ago this summer.

2. What is your favorite exercise or movement?

I really love the adrenaline of the AMRAP, but when I am doing a well-constructed WOD the feeling of getting to that halfway stage then adjusting your mind and body to know you are on the other side and to just keep going! – I love that! As far as a movement that is a current favorite – I cannot believe that I am admitting to this – “the burpee.”

3. What is a skill or movement that you are working on to improve?

There are a bunch (DU’s, Toe-2-Bar’s etc.) but the one that looks so beautiful and I really want to be able to do is the snatch!

4. What changes have you seen in yourself since you started at Mountain Strength CrossFit?

Other than the physical changes which at my age (51) are very welcome – the feeling of driving towards finishing and achieving that goal no matter the level is really something the coach’s at Mountain Strength really encourage and support and I strive to really embrace (my music interest has also been affected!)

5. Tell us something about yourself that your fellow athletes might not know?

I met my wife through martial arts, and took ukemi for her (in Japanese martial arts it is the practice of receiving the technique – basically allowed her to beat me up) when she was presenting her black belt test! She still is able to beat me up! BTW, Rich also practiced at my dojo years ago – he probably beat me up too!
