What brought you to MSCF?
My husband has been a member for several years, but I had no interest in joining.  I was satisfied with my workout routine, and thought I was in decent shape.  About a year ago, I started noticing that I was putting on weight with no changes in my diet or exercise habits.  I started doing my homework and realized the only healthy way to combat the weight gain on a long term basis was to build more muscle.  John suggested a few private sessions with Rich, and the rest is history.
What is your favorite exercise or movement?
I never would have guessed it a year ago, but anything that involves a barbell!  I don’t think I can pick between the deadlift and the snatch.  The deadlift makes me feel powerful and the snatch makes me feel athletic.
What is a skill or movement that you are working on to improve?
I am still a newbie, so there are tons!  I would like to eventually be able to do strict pull-ups, push-ups and double unders in WODs someday.
What changes have you seen in yourself since you started at MSCF?
I am definitely stronger than I have ever been!  Also, I am more willing to push myself physically than ever before, and I think that is because I can see tangible changes in my performance from week to week and month to month.  Shortly after I started classes, the programming revolved around two weightlifting cycles.  By the end of the second cycle, I could deadlift well over my body weight and squat two thirds of it.  Having started with empty training bars less than eight weeks before, that gave me a tremendous sense of accomplishment.
What is your favorite memory of MSCF?
About six weeks after starting classes, I was in the gym making up a deadlift day that I had missed.  My goal had been to be able to deadlift my body weight within six months.  I had been pretty tentative about increasing my deadlift weight, but on that particular day, came in and did ten in a row at what I thought was a heavy weight.  Two coaches and several very experienced members were in the gym watching and told me that they thought I had it in me to try to lift my body weight based on how easily the last set had been for me.  I never thought I could do it, but I tried and I did it.  My PR is now 30 pounds over that original goal of body weight, and I still have six more weeks to push that up even higher.  In a regular gym, I never would have had the support system to try that deadlift that day, and would still not be confident in my decisions to try to go heavier.
