I noticed in the last year I’ve hit a plateau in my running and worse, I have started experiencing chronic pain in my ankle during and after I run. When Coach Rich advertised the running analysis I pounced on the opportunity to get the feedback in the hopes it would give me a way to fix the pain and maybe even get a little faster in the process. The initial meeting was great – I ran around the soccer field while Rich filmed my running from several angles. We went back to the gym and the feedback was immediate. Upon watching the video, Rich was able to identify a number of things that quickly explained the pain I was having as well as a few things I had no idea I was doing. After looking at the videos and talking through the issues, Rich gave me a number of drills to work on to begin fixing my form. The follow up videos Rich sent with his commentary overlaid are immensely helpful in reinforcing what we talked about in the initial consult. I am starting to put the feedback and drills into practice and I already notice with the just form adjustments we initially discussed that I haven’t had nearly as much pain and that is remarkable. I look forward to seeing what my form and pace are once I build in the strength too.

I somehow had never managed to fit working out into my life after kids.  Always too many things going on.  When it was suggested by some friends that I try out Mountain Strength Crossfit, I went to the intro work-out, and I liked it a lot.  The place has a great vibe.  The owners, Rich and his wife, Ari, are new parents, entrepreneurs, athletes and all-around great folks.  Rich's coaching style is so completely supportive without EVER being over-bearing.  I've grown confident in heeding his guidance during a work-out.  The workouts have introduced me to a wide variety of ways to build strength and endurance.  It's been a year for me now, and I'm totally grateful.  The act of working out at Crossfit just 2 to 3 hours per week has made me stronger -- mind, body and spirit.  This helps tremendously as I juggle competing priorities in life.  I also thoroughly enjoy my time at the gym.  It's a great group of folks with commitment and integrity to tackle these work-outs and keep coming back...

It recently occurred to me that I've been doing Crossfit for over a year now. I thought I would share how much I love MSCF. The community of support and a friendly sense of competition is amazing. I'm sure you've heard that CrossFit is hard.. yada yada yada... And only crazy people do it... yada yada yada. Well crossfit is hard and we are a little crazy but you'll leave the gym after every WOD (workout of the day) with a wonderful sense of accomplishment and our little bit of craziness is what makes us so awesome. There are a bunch of crossfits out there and we aren't all the same. Why not stop in for an intro class to check us out?... Best case scenerio you find a way to workout that's fun and leads to result! Worse case scenario you get in a good workout on a Saturday morning. =D

It's hard to put into words how awesome MSCF is, but the key things everyone should know are that Rich and the rest of the coaches take a personal interest in your success, thanks to the small class sizes! Crossfit has been a life changing experience for me and I can't thank MSCF enough. The classes are great, everything is really broken down. I am now training for competitions and with the help of all the coaches I know I will be well prepared for whatever is thrown at me. But it isn't the competitions or workouts that make crossfit, crossfit..it's the community! Honestly MSCF has a great community, everyone is so supportive and we push each other to reach new potentials. Plus it's like gaining a whole new family, we have a ton of fun in and outside of the box!

We feel so lucky to have found MCSF. Rich and Coach Dan are amazing, patient, and inspiring. Many people think CrossFit is intimidating - not here! They meet you where you are at, while helping make you better. Classes are small, everyone is friendly, and you really feel like part of a community - and an awesome one at that :)

After 8 weeks of bed rest and two months of new baby I signed up for the intro class.  I had seen a friend of mine post about MSCF on Facebook but really knew nothing about it.  From the minute I got to the gym I realized this was different than anything i had tried before.  It is a very welcoming place to be a beginner.  The coach/owner Rich took time to ask us all questions about ourselves and fitness levels before starting the class.

Unlike going to a gym or a class at the gym  it really feels instruction based  and there is plenty of time for the coach to help each person with form and questions throughout the workout while keeping everything moving at a steady pace.

The hour is broken down into a few different segments (I may not get these all right): stretch, warm up, more warm up, instruction, strength, and work out of the day. Each class has been different which keeps it interesting for me.  I'm never exactly sure what i am walking into however the basics are already  more familiar.

It's now been almost a month and each class I've learned something new, challenged myself in a way i hadn't before, leave feeling like I've gotten a great workout (so a little tired) but definitely always refreshed.  There are all different fitness levels in each class so everything is always tailored to where I am at right now.  I am excited to continue on and see where the workouts take me.    I highly recommend to everyone.  This place is a rare find!

**If you live in or near Winchester it is super convenient.  The class sizes are small and there are many options to choose from.  Being a working mom I always worry about committing to specific times however I can change my schedule there week to week and constantly change when works best- I love that flexibility.

I started working out with Rich and Mountain Strength about six months ago, after a particularly unhealthy and dormant winter. After three months of working out for one hour a day, four days a week, and some serious nutritional realignment, my cholesterol levels were back where they should be and I was down a size in my jeans. By summer's end I'd lost 30 pounds.

That's not what makes Mountain Strength so special, though. I've always hated exercise. Hated the gym (so many wasted memberships!) & the people at the gym. Lacked motivation and knowledge to work out on my own. Sound familiar?

Because of Rich's personal warmth and affable nature, Mountain Strength provides a real sense of community. Going to work out is like going to hang out, only earlier in the morning and with more sweating. And because of his knowledge and openness, Rich is extremely sensitive to scaling exercises to meet individual's needs, which allows for more flexible workouts and a more interactive relationship.

The most important thing for me has been that I have never once been yelled at during a workout! Many of my deep-seated memories of exercise-as-punishment have been replaced with real feelings of support and encouragement. I'm healthier than I've ever been - physically and mentally - and Rich and Mountain Strength have been fundamental in helping me get here.

Bottom line: I wear my Mountain Strength t-shirt with pride, and I am the last person I ever thought would wear a shirt from a gym. Check it out!

MSCF ROCKS!  Rich is a fantastic instructor, mentor, and all around human being.  He knows how to push you to your limits and get the best out of you without the attitude and intimidation factor of a drill sergeant.  He's extremely patient, super knowledgeable, and an incredible source of motivation for those he trains.  I've always been the type of guy that dreaded the idea of swapping an extra hour of sleep for some gym time.  Now, I look forward to it.  I love knowing that I'm working my way to the best shape of my life, and I have a great community of CrossFitters and a top-notch instructor to help me reach my goals.  I'll end with this: there's at least 2 other CrossFit gyms closer to me in Cambridge, MA.  I followed Rich from Somerville to his new location in Winchester because I can't imagine training anywhere else. Check it out--you won't be disappointed.

I've been working out with MSCF since March of 2011 with the outdoor bootcamp in Arlington.  Rich is awesome; the workouts will kick your butt, but they are tailored to your own fitness level- whether you are beginner, advanced, or somewhere in between (like me).  So you're not competing against anyone but yourself.  Although I am pretty active anyway, my fitness level has gotten much better since I've been working out with Mountain Strength.  No more boring gym workouts. Rich is a caring and inspiring fitness coach, and the sense of community is great. I've made some new friends as well, everyone is very supportive, and I continue to look forward to getting in better shape.

MSCF is an OUTSTANDING institution of fitness and well-being !!!

"Push me up the slide Mom." And with one effortless motion, I pushed my 5-year old son up to the top of the slide. And that's when I realized how much stronger I had become thanks to weekly, creative workouts with Amber and Mountain Strength Fitness. My new found strength and fitness was a part of me and I hadn't even realized it. What a great feeling.
