What brought you to Mountain Strength CrossFit?
A little over a year ago my family and I moved from the West Coast to Winchester and I was looking for a new exercise routine. Previously, I would go to the gym by myself and do the same boring stuff without much enthusiasm. My sister has been doing Crossfit for several years and was insanely into it - so she is largely responsible for making me aware of Crossfit. After getting over the "cult" fear of Crossfit, I came to a Saturday morning introductory workout and have been coming to MSCF ever since.
What is your favorite exercise or movement?
I like the longer 15-20 minute AMRAPS, and within those, I probably think i like WODs that have running or burpees in them. It's a boring answer, but after some thought realized the reason I like those is because those are the easiest things to really push yourself hard on since they aren't movements that require a really specific skill or strength. It becomes a mental decision to keep pushing, while in other movements, the ability to keep pressing on may be more dictated by things out of your control.
What is a skill or movement that you are working on to improve?
My lower body is disproportionately weaker than my upper, so right now it would be squats and deadlifts. I would also like to do a muscle-up some day.
What changes have you seen in yourself since you started at Mountain Strength CrossFit?
Physically, I lost a few pounds and also have lost at least an inch around my waist. Mentally, I enjoy exercising much more and instead of it being a chore, it is something look forward to.
What is your favorite memory of Mountain Strength CrossFit?
Probably the Glen. It was pretty cool seeing Stratton's creation come to life and it was inspiring to see so many people show up to set up for the event, including many that weren't even participating. Other favorite memories are more subtle and random. They surround watching other MSCFers work really hard during a tough WOD. It is motivating to see others succeed and make progress.
