What brought you to Mountain Strength CrossFit?
I was at Crossfit H2O in Medford until it closed last fall. They recommended checking out Mountain Strength and I’ve been here ever since.
What is your favorite exercise or movement?
It definitely changes here and there, but right now I’m into overhead squats. I feel like my form with them has improved drastically since I started working on them.
What is a skill that you are working on to improve?
Weighted pull ups/chin ups will consistently be in my workouts for the next few months, but control on the rings should be more of a focus too. I probably have the strength for ring muscle ups, but I still need to work on form.
What changes have you seen in yourself since you started at Mountain Strength?
See above related to overhead squats. My double unders have also gotten a lot better. I can now routinely do sets of 40/50 unbroken. I’ve also been experimenting with my diet as well, so I’ve seen how what I eat changes how I look and how I feel.
What is your favorite memory of MSCF?
The CrossFit total back in the fall was fun, because I was able to meet a lot of the members very soon after joining. Competing with Jen at the in house competition was fun too. That was the first “competition” I’ve done, and I had a great partner to do it with.
Any advice for people who want to try CrossFit but are afraid to do so?
Do your research on it. Movements, gyms, etc. Whatever you need to feel more relaxed about it. You can always start off with easy workouts and get more intense as your comfort level grows.
Random Matt fact?
I threw out a first pitch at a red sox game when I was very young because some people in my class won a contest at Fenway Park.
