What brought you to Mountain Strength CrossFit?
I was looking for a program to help me and my husband train for our first Spartan race and learned about MSCF. On day 1 of Spartan training, we realized we were more out of shape than we thought we were. We knew then we needed help beyond Spartan training. After Spartan season, we signed up for CrossFit membership.

What is your favorite exercise or movement?
Box jumps because it is first of the few movements I could now RX.

What is a skill that you are working on to improve?
Rope climb!  It is an obstacle on every Spartan race yet I am bad at it.

What changes have you seen in yourself since you started at Mountain Strength?
I am not an athletic person. I tried to be active the past few years; however, keeping my motivation to go the gym was a challenge. Before MSCF, my motivation peaks during the New Year then few months after, you would find me hiding at the back of a spinning class not breaking a sweat. Now, I like going to MSCF because I found more reasons to go other than a great workout: 1) MSCF has a tool that tracks your performance. For me, doing a movement I thought I could not do or doing a movement faster or better than I used to gives me a tremendous sense of accomplishment. The tool also allows for a comparison of your performance with others. For me, doing more repetitions than my husband is fun! Sure it rarely happens but when it does, it is a reason for a big celebration for me! 2) MSCF organizes activities that incorporate fun into workouts. Before MSCF, you would not see me excited to go to the gym on a Friday night.

What is your favorite memory of MSCF?
Friday Night Lights!  It was so much fun as I expected and more! During Friday Night Lights, I found myself inspired by many performances. Also, I witnessed a great display of a supportive community that made me feel proud to be a part of.

Any advice for people who want to try CrossFit but are afraid to do so?
Come and try! You will find that all movements could be scaled to anyone’s level, and you will get the attention you need because classes are small. Also, you will find that the coaches at MSCF are welcoming and supportive, and truly care about your success and safety.

Random Mona fact?
I love to travel. I like visiting national parks and UNESCO heritage sites. I also would like to go to all 50 states. I have 21 to go!
